FINAL REFLECTION

I know that I honestly did get a lot of things out of this class. Ill be honest i really didn't want to take this class because of the simple fact that I am not a fan of technology at all. I really didn't know what to expect but I was surprised by just how much i really learned and not only that but how many things I will really use in my future teaching career. I got how to create my own website and my own calendar which is probably by favorite thing by far that we did in this class. I am going to use technology such as i movie, PowerPoint. Word, Internet searching and web 2.0 as i teach my students how to stay active for a lifetime.

It might not be used as often as other classroom teachers but because i teach in a gym and my students are not going to be on actual computers a lot of the time but they will have take home assignments and we will make some trips to the computer lab for this purpose. This class taught me that using technology isn't all bad and that it can be fun after you learn how to really use the program. That's all it really is, is learning new programs and how they apply to what it is that you are teaching. I now know that it is going to be impossible to teach Physical Education without using some type of technology in my lesson plans. I have become more confident with technology in general and so for that I am thankful. Overall this class was an educational experience that I am glad that i had during the first semester of this Physical Education program instead of the last because now I can use what I learned as I continue to teach and critique my teaching videos etc..

web 2.0

Were there any Web 2.0 toolswe talked about today that you feel would help further education? How might ou use them in your teaching?

I enjoyed talking about the different types of things that can be done with Web 2.0. It actually blew me away after watching that little video on this topic in class last week. The fact that you can do so many things digitally now is really astounding and fantastic all at the same time. I liked the fact that you can link articles to peoples bloggs and to their websites and emails and then even to their twitter accounts..it was crazy and i know that there are many things that i don't even have a clue about because i am just begining to learn about this new thing, which might even be old in tech time but new to me none the less.

I am going to have my students do a simillar activity when I become a teacher because i thought that having us surf the internet was a great idea because it gave us some control of what we were doing and what we were learning about the topic of web 2.0. I learned about different conferences that people can attend and how you can even become a fan of web 2.0 and follow posings of other fans if you want to. I want my students to be aware of all of the possibilities that are out there with this web 2.0 stuff. I know that i have a lot to learn about it but am looking forward to really diving into it as a teacher and incorporating it into my classroom.

Studio Code Project!

After participating in Studio Code the past couple of weeks, i have learned a little bit about the program. I have learned that it is not a very quick process when you are trying to code and edit your teaching video. I am sure that there is a ton of value in Studio code once you know how to run and operate all of the buttons and such; but as for right now I am having a hard time finding it very useful. However after analyzing my teaching i learned a bit about my instruction as well as my management. I learned that cues are very important to a Physical Education lesson.

They help keep the students on task and allow them to have rules to follow. I realized that a lot of my teaching time was spent on disciplinary actions and that took away from valuable teaching time. I also realized that using a student as a demo can be very effective and helpful to the flow of my lessons.

It definitely made a difference when i would follow through with my rules, signals and instructions and when I wouldn't. This "coding" with Studio Code taught me that.I plan on making a separate spot ( like a hula hoop) to send my students who are off task and the ones that are uncontrollable. I think that seeing how much time I was spending on disciplinary problems makes me want to have a stern look for the kids to know that I am serious as well as a time out place.

I know that I need to be better at telling them what cues are for what part of the dance. I will try to teach the kids with more simple cues according to their needs in their particular grades. Also I will try to say "What before When" in a few different ways so that I don't feel like I am being very repetitive with my words. I think that it was beneficial to see the video of me broken down into smaller and smaller segments. I am going to try to be aware of each thing that i am saying to each student next semester as well.

Video Taping While Teaching

How could filming myself teach and reviewing the film help me become a better teacher?"

This is a very good question. I can only answer yes to this question because it seems like the very obvious answer. If you are teaching, you have an idea of how well your lesson went after you are done teaching that particular lesson. You may think that you did a few things wrong and/or right but after you watch yourself give that very same lesson; you might change your opinion about things. After you observe yourself teaching by videotaping; you then allow yourself to see yourself from the outsiders perspective. Or rather how everyone else sees you as a teacher. This can be very good because it will let you see little minute details that you might not otherwise see if you didn't videotape yourself teaching. Once you have evaluated yourself from the angle of the student then you can implement those things that you need to work on in your future lessons; therefore ultimately making you a better teacher for the long hall. Whoever thought about using videotaping as a teacher improvement resource was a very innovative person. I look forward to continuing to teach and evaluating my teaching and also continuing to get better!!

I Movie Reflection

After making this instructional video about a sport skill, I realized how important these videos can really be to me as both a teacher as well as a coach. I can film my players while they are doing certain sport skills and that way they can visually make themselves better by watching them perform. I can use these videos to help a brand new class learn a more difficult skill. The lessons that would be enhanced would be a ton, but specifically I would say things like learning to play games that might be a little foreign to the students; like water polo, cross country skiing, lacrosse, and/or mountain biking in the physical education classes. I really think that I can help my students understand and learn better because of the visual aspect of these videos. I am a visual learner and I know how much easier it is to learn a new skill once I have seen someone else performing that same skill. I am grateful that I learned how to use I movie. I am also glad that we have been video taping the lessons that we have been teaching lately. I now know how to convert them into I movie and burn them to a disc. This will only help me realize what I can really be doing to improve as a teacher in the classroom as well as a coach on the field.

I movie Project Outline!!!!

Well I am excited about making this i movie project. It will force me to actually learn how to use this program. I have some friends who have used i movie and they swear by it.
For my video I am going to film someone performing a softball pitch. I will have them go through the motions slow at first and then quickly at the end. I will have narriation as well as text in my video. I hope to have some still shots as well in my video. I will add some sweet background music for added effect as well. I hope that I can work out all of the problems that im sure will come up in the making of this sweet project..all in good time! Bring on I movie!

I movie!!

Well I think that I Movie is a great creation for those who are going into movie editing and for those people who have a lot of time on their hands because in my opinion it is a very hard program to figure out. I had fun messing with it in class this week but I know that when we have to create our own movie of us teaching or whatever; I might have some patience issues. However, overall I do have some friends that are very good at using this program and I will be calling for their assistance for sure. I am excited to learn a new program because after all what can learning something new really hurt any ways?

REFLECTION ON INTERNET SAFETY!

It was interesting because before this class, we got an email from our teacher telling the members of my group and myself what the topic of the day was and how if we wanted to relate our gospel presentation to that topic that we could do so. We gave our gospel presentation and I really learned a lot about internet safety.
Then I went to class and we had a great lesson on this same topic. I learned that you shouldn’t click to go to a site from an email because they could be sending you somewhere else that looks almost identical to the webpage that you were trying to go to and at the very same time they are probability stealing your information without you even knowing about it. We talked about identity theft and how important it is to not give out any information. We were taught that you shouldn’t even give out our birthday year. Now this really surprised me because I sat back in class and wondered what was so bad about people knowing what year you were born? He then went on to tell us that in order for people to find out what your identity is, they really just need your name and the year that you were born and with that information they can find out a whole lot more. I promptly got the importance of that little lesson.
After I heard that lesson and giving our internet safety presentation I really have a greater desire to be even more careful on the internet. I was always one to be cautions about what I put on the internet because I was told a few years ago that what you put on the internet never comes off because it is like you are writing that stuff in the air; and there is no way to catch air for real. I walked away from Thursday’s class with a little more caution and a little more desire to help others want to be better about what they put on the internet as well.
I called up my little sister who is still back home and I basically taught her the same lesson that I had just heard. Now she is pretty young and hasn’t had a whole lot of experience with the Internet but she does have an email account as well as a facebook; which these days is pretty much all kids really want the Internet for anyway. We talked about how easy it is for someone to steal your identity and how awful that might feel. I told her to never under any circumstance give out her social security number and to not use a password that contained any personal information. I encouraged her to change her email address and with some reluctance she agreed because her previous one had definitely contained way to much information. I felt good after I taught her this lesson and then she thanked me for making her more aware of the importance of Internet safety.
These same basic lessons will apply to by future family as well as to those who I am going to teach in the high schools. They will need to be even more cautious of what they put out into the world wide web because technology is always advancing and as information becomes more readily available to us so does the capability of others to hack into our lives and steal our own identities. We as teachers and as members of whatever communities that we live in need to help those around us understand the dangers of the Internet as well as the highlights. We need to teach them that the Internet is not a bad thing, in fact it is a beautiful thing that allows us to research many things with the click of a button. Overall, I am glad that we had this lesson because it definitely made me more aware and I am glad that I was able to teach someone else this past week.

Making a Website!

I do not like making websites because they are very difficult and time consuming. I would like to have more time to do this website because i think that it would be a better product if that was the case. I learned a ton through trial and error while i made this that is for sure. However, it was a good learning experience for me to say the least and now my Softball team at Timpview has their own website that they can use for real!!!

Creating a Website

Well I have been having a fun time creating my Timpview high school softball website. It is really interesting but at the same time it can get a bit tricky for me. I have never created my own website and i do feel a sense of accomplishment when i add something new to the page but I know that i am far from perfect in this area. However, learning how to create a website is going to prove to be very beneficial to me in the future because i am going to need to make them when i am a high school Physical Education teacher/ Softball Coach. There are some bugs that i need to work out on my page but it is a work in progress. Carry on! Carry on!

Copyright at its best!

OK so I thought that the lesson on copyright was very interesting and informative. However, I do not agree with everything about copyrighting. I feel that some things should be allowed. For example, if your watch a movie in a classroom because you have a sub that day and there is no lesson plan; something needs to keep the students occupied. A movie is usually what administrators turn to in those situations. However, according to copyright laws this would not be acceptable. I do feel that copyrighting is extremely important because there are many people out there who don't care where anything comes from or who it belongs to and they will just take it. This lesson allowed me to be more informed and aware that basically anything I do is against the copyright.

Reflection question

I would love to learn more about the google Doc program. I really liked what I
saw about it in class last Thursday. I think it would be great for group work. I
feel that it would also eliminate many technical difficulties that often arise when
I use Microsoft word or excel to share my documents with others. I can use this
as a teacher in the future on many different occasions. For example when I have
to prepare a document or presentation for a staff meeting, i can have other
Physical Education teachers look at it through google docs from wherever they
are at. They could be on vacation and still give me input without even having to
open their email. As a student google doc and the other resources mentioned in
class are very helpful to me right now. We are currently working on a group
assignment for one of my other classes and we have used google doc! I might
just be becoming a fan of this technology stuff after all.

Goals for semester!

- As far as goals I would like to become better with this computer stuff and I would especially like to learn how to download pictures off of a camera and put them onto my computer. Sounds simple to most yes but to me it's like trying to eat an entire pie in one bite. I would also like to learn the basics of the computer world. So like the new microsoft word, learning new websites that would be a great benefit to me in my Physical Education career in the future. I am ready for this! I know that this class will help me become better able to teach my future students things that they will need to know in a timely fashion.

Reflection on Technology background

Well hey there!
-Um I definitley don't have a ton of experience with technology. Actually it is a habit of mine to constantly try to advoid it as much as possible because I would just rather not deal with it to be honest. I mean for real, I still would much rather stick with the 2003 version of Microsoft word than try to even remotely understand the newest version. However, I am trying to get better at this always changing game of technology.
